What the GMU Philosophy Club is and what it does
The GMU Philosophy Club is devoted to fostering an interest in and discussion
of philosophical issues among students and other interested parties. This
includes both philosophical issues of an abstract and theoretical nature:
e.g., Is there a God? Is the mind physical or non-physical?, as well as
the application of philosophical thinking to issues of contemporary concern:
e.g., the proper scope and limits of technology, including biotechnology
and the justification of war.
Even though membership in the club is restricted to full time GMU undergraduates,
all meetings are open to the public.
Among activities that the Philosophy Club have sponsored in the recent
past are: faculty talks, the viewing of movies of philosophical import,
book discussions at the local Borders Bookstore, and regular get togethers
of students, and other interested parties, for discussion of philosophical
issues of common interest. However, the student presidents, as well as
the faculty advisor, welcome ideas, from any quarter, for other activities.
