MA in Philosophy

The MA in philosophy offers students the opportunity to study the historical traditions and contemporary debates in philosophy. They can focus on social, political, and ethical issues and, if they like, choose one of three concentrations.

Ethics and Public Affairs concentration in the MA in Philosophy

The concentration in ethics and public affairs is designed for professionals who want to combine the study of ethics and the analysis of social and public policies in a variety of settings, including business, health care, biomedical technology, law, or government.

Philosophy and Cultural Theory concentration in the MA in Philosophy

The concentration in philosophy and cultural theory is especially for students interested in pursuing a doctorate in cultural studies.

Philosophy and Public Affairs concentration in the MA in Philosophy

The concentration in philosophy and public affairs allows students in the graduate program in philosophy at Moscow's Higher School of Economics to also earn a degree from George Mason.

Accelerated MA in Philosophy

Philosophy majors with a strong record are encouraged to apply to the accelerated master’s degree program in philosophy. They can obtain both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy after satisfactory completion of 144 credits, sometimes within five years.
