<p>The BA in philosophy famliarizes students with the Western tradition of thought on the fundamental questions
of human existence. It helps students improve their skills in critical
reasoning, textual analysis and argumentative writing. Students can choose a concencentration in philosophy and law.</p>

<p>The concentration in philosophy and law offers philosophy majors the opportunity to focus their study of philosophy in a way that helps prepare them for the study of the law.</p>

<p>Highly qualified philosophy majors may apply to graduate with honors in philosophy.</p>

<p>The minor in philosophy is an excellent complement to any major. Students can use their electives to complete an emphasis in the history of philosophy, in reality,
knowledge and science, or in social and political philosophy.</p>

<p class="style11">The minor in philosophy and law emphasizes the philosophical analysis of legal
issues. Students develop important intellectual
skills—logic and critical
thinking—that prepare them for the study of law.</p>

<p>The interdisciplinary minor in political philosophy offers students the opportunity
for intensive study in the areas of political philosophy and political
theory. This is offered jointly by the departments of Philosophy and Public and International Affairs.</p>

<h5><a href="../../programs/show/LA-MA-PHIL">MA in Philosophy</a> </h5>
<p>The MA in philosophy offers students the opportunity to study the historical traditions and contemporary debates in philosophy. They can focus on social, political, and ethical issues and, if they like, choose one of two concentrations.</p>
<p>The concentration in professional ethics is designed for professionals who want to combine the study of ethics
and the analysis of social and public policies in a variety of settings—including business, health care, biomedical technology, law or government.</p>
<p>The concentration in philosophy and cultural studies is for students who wish to go on to doctoral work in cultural studies or related fields.</p>
<h5><a href="../../programs/show/LA-CERG-PETH">Graduate Certificate in Professional Ethics</a></h5>
<p>The certificate program in professional ethics emphasizes critical rational
thought about matters of ethics. It is an excellent complement
to degree programs in business, medicine,
nursing, health care administration, public administration, and administration
of justice.</p>
<h5><a href="../../acceleratedmaster%27s">Accelerated Master's Program</a></h5>
<p>Philosophy majors with a strong record are encouraged apply to the accelerated
master’s degree program in philosophy. They can obtain both bachelor’s and master’s degrees
in philosophy after satisfactory completion of 144 credits, sometimes
within five years.</p>
