Section Information for Spring 2019

This course will situate Karl Marx’s theory of political economy and critique of capitalism in terms of his broader philosophical commitments to materialism and humanism. With this in mind, we will examine key ideas such as historical materialism, ideology, labor, alienation, capital and commodity fetishism in both their narrow uses in Marxian political economy and as concepts with broader philosophical import. Marxian philosophy will also be situated in terms of key influences both on and of Marx.
