Section Information for Spring 2019
The early modern period—referring, for this course, to the period from 1641 to 1785—saw exciting philosophical disputes that have shaped everything that came after. We will read works by Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, Locke (briefly), Berkeley, Hume, and Kant. The Magnificent Seven! Prominent themes will include the development of modern science and the place of God in philosophical reasoning.
