Section Information for Fall 2019

This course investigates several hotly contested debates in contemporary moral philosophy through the use of philosophical argumentation. We will begin by covering basic tools related to reasoning and argumentation that students will use throughout the course. Next, we will spend the early part of the course discussing moral theories. These theoretical concerns will be applied to the applied topics that comprise the rest of the course. The applied topics include the following: charity, ethical treatment of animals, abortion, and the death penalty.  Finally, we will conclude each topic with a formal debate. So, if you enjoy controlled debates and discussion of ethical issues, you'll enjoy this class.
