Dylan Pelton is the 2022 OLLI Scholarship Award winner for the Department of Philosophy

Dylan Pelton received his B.A. in Philosophy from George Mason University and is currently completing his thesis for his M.A. His primary research interests involve fields within Continental philosophy, including phenomenology, ontology, hermeneutics, and post-modern thought. He has a special interest in the work of Martin Heidegger, and is currently researching ways in which phenomenological absence factors into the ontological structure of our being and our relation to others.

Dylan received the Outstanding Graduating Senior Award in Philosophy in 2014 and is a two-time recipient of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Scholarship. In 2017, he served as a Graduate Research Assistant under Jesse Kirkpatrick on the topic of “Biosecurity in the Age of Genome Editing” with participants from Stanford University, and assisted in drafting a major research grant proposal on autonomous weapons systems under Jesse Kirkpatrick and Andrew Peterson later that year.

Dr. Rachel Jones writes, “Dylan has stood out for me ever since he took my seminar on Nietzsche: his class contributions are always so thoughtful. It’s terrific to see his success being recognized in this way, especially as he is currently working with Professor Froman on his thesis, the culmination of his Masters degree in Philosophy."
