Section Information for Spring 2024

Philosophy sounds tough. It asks questions like, “what is really true?” and “how can I know for sure?”
Philosophy then presses us harder with questions like “how should I live?” and “what kind of society
is best for us all?” This course places life’s biggest questions front and center, challenging us to
evaluate, and if necessary revise, what we think, believe and do. Philosophy can be both a liberating
way of seeing the world and a powerful method for changing it. Its study empowers us with essential
tools of thought like critical thinking, empathy and careful attention to detail. We will also practice
other crucial life skills like making and assessing arguments, evaluating evidence, clear articulation
in speech and writing, as well as the art of productive disagreement with others.
