This course is a look at philosophical questions surrounding art and aesthetics and is divided into two basic parts. The first part is an overview and introduction to philosophical questions surrounding art and interpretation. The second part will explore the relation of art to truth via a more detailed look at particular philosophers: Plato, Schopenhauer, Heidegger, and Benjamin. Throughout the course we will be looking at both specific examples of art and particular case studies of theory.
