Minor in Ethics and AI
Jose Alberto Carbajal Duran, 2025
Major: BA in foreign languages with concentration in Spanish, minor in ethics and AI
Plans after graduation: Carbajal Duran is excited to start a new position as a sales representative for a construction company following graduation. “This job will be my first step to start developing a career in sales or marketing in the long-term.”
Most impactful course: Spanish in Healthcare. “This class was so meaningful to me because it was a community-based learning experience. I had the opportunity to volunteer as a Spanish/English medical interpreter. Five weeks of this class were helping the Latino and community to get access to primary care, social and mental health services. It was so special to me to see how I could be a bridge between patients and nurses.”
Advice for future Patriots: “Take any opportunity that your professors or the university offer to you. You will never know where any of those opportunities will take you until you actually take them.”
Creative collaboration and an award-winning experience
Carbajal Duran served as assistant editor for the bilingual Hispanic Culture Review journal. “My team and I had to choose the year’s theme of the magazine and work together selecting literary submissions from all over the world. These submissions were poetry, narratives, and photography. It was an excellent experience for me to promote and help with the publication of this magazine on time. We actually won an award for this publication, which was so special and rewarding to me.”
